Market House User Instructions

Thank you for hiring Minchinhampton Market House.

We receive no direct public funding and keeping the Market House available for all the community relies on hirings, grants and event income.

We hope you have an excellent time with us and below are some instructions on how to use the Market House once your booking has been confirmed.

Keys

Keys for the hall can be obtained from the Market Stores and should be returned as soon as possible after your event.

Normally the top and middle locks are used.

Toilets

Toilets are normally left locked, and the keys (with red and blue covers) can be used.

The toilets are regularly cleaned and will have toilet paper and soap in the dispensers available.

Heating

The heating control is in the main hall by the emergency exit/right hand of the stage.

It is a push button up to two hours, each press showing blue lights how long is left to run.  When you need to extend the heating, just push the button again.

Sound, Lighting and Projector

We have many flexible options but can become quite technical, quite quickly.

You should confirm your requirements as part of your booking, with the associated cost.

Please speak to us beforehand to confirm detail of your needs and we’ll discuss with you how to set everything up ready for your event.

Kitchen

There is a fully fitted kitchen available and individual equipment instructions are contained in a folder on the shelf by the sink.

Note that as you come into the kitchen there are electrical isolator switches on the left-hand side, which you’ll need to switch on to use certain equipment.

The kitchen shutter can be opened using the switch in the back of the tall cleaning cupboard in the kitchen.  Rotate the switch to raise/lower the shutter.  Note the shutter is linked to the fire alarm system and will automatically lower when the alarm system goes off.

Chairs

We generally keep between 20 and 30 chairs out for general use.

More chairs are contained under the stage on trolleys.  Use the two trolleys on the right-hand side first.  There is one additional trolley under the stage on the left.

Trolleys can be accessed by removing the stage front panel.  Unstack the chairs, noting how they are stacked for when you return them after your event.

Chair Lift

The chair lift is operated by a key that can be found in the tall cleaning cupboard in the kitchen.  It is hung up on the hook.

Insert the key under the arm of the chair lift and turn to the on position.

There is also a power button under the fold up/down seat.

Instruction on its use are on the notices at the top and bottom of the chair lift

Health & Safety

General risk assessments are available on our website.

You are reminded that it is your responsibility to conduct your own risk assessments and comply with H&S legislation and safeguarding commensurate with your event.

Fire

A fire alarm system with smoke detectors is installed.

Should the fire alarm system go off, please ensure you evacuate the Market House and call the fire brigade if there is evidence of a fire.

To have the system reset, the control board is on the wall at the bottom of the stairs and can be reset using the key and buttons/menu. Or call one of the Trustees on the numbers below for assistance.

Please ensure the chain is removed from the emergency exit door to the right of the stage. Replace the chain once your event has finished as part of the clean up.

First Aid

You are responsible for ensuring you have adequate First Aid cover commensurate with your event.

There is a full first aid kit which can be found in the kitchen on the shelf next to the sink.  There is also a first aid kit in the gallery, should the gallery be in use.

In the event of an accident a report MUST be made in the accident book, also situated on the shelf in the kitchen.  You MUST also notify one of the Trustees below as soon as practicably possible.

There is also a defibrillator available.  It is in the kitchen and is mounted on the wall on the left-hand side by the door.  Instructions on it’s use are on the equipment and there will be voice prompts when you use it.

In the case of an emergency, follow the instructions on the device, helped by the voice prompts.  The device analyses the person, and shocks are given automatically with the device monitoring the person in between shocks. Instructions on the defibrillator’s use are also available on a video, and it is strongly encouraged that you view this short 1 minute video before your event.

Cleaning and After Your Event

Once your event is finished, please return the Market House back to a clean state ready for our next Customers.

Remember to return any chairs you took from under the stage, back to the trolley(s).

Cleaning materials, including mop and bucket, are in the tall cupboard in the kitchen.

A large broom to sweep the hall floor is on the stairs leading up to the gallery. It is sometimes also left on the kitchen’s roof as you go up the stairs to the gallery.
